How to support our kids to easily pass through transition time from summer to school?

Yessssss! It is September and the time for our kids to go back to school. We as parents have enjoyed our time accompanying our children during summer time hanging out with them. It has been great opportunity for both parties to spend longer times during long days of summer and it’s the time for our kids to go back to school and officially start their studies. This transition time may be stressful for most of the kids. Every change in life brings stress to individual’s life..

Kids are in the early ages of their lives. As adults, they don’t have social experiences. As a result, they are more vulnerable toward stresses. During the first days of going back to school, parents should emotionally support their kids. Relaxed parents could really provide soothing environment at home for their kid(s). Consequently, children will could benefit from the friendly supportive atmosphere at home and emotionally be ready to gain success in their schooling.

But, it is not always easy to create such environment at home. Most parents try hard to be supportive and friendly with their kids. There are obstacles for parents in the process of
providing Support. One of these obstacle deals with time management. Especially during the first days of school it is hard for kids to be on time. They should get up very early in the
mornings so sometimes they are late to school for even in some cases one hour. Most of school administrators, strongly blame parents for tardiness of these young students. Parents usually should try to solve the issue very soon. Because if not,it will negatively affect performance of their kids at school.

So, how to solve the problem: One of the good advices is leaving the most clichéd morning paradox known to momkind. Many of young moms in the morning just try to push their kid(s) by telling them to hurry up. This makes kid(s) be more anxious. Kid(s) are very need in the morning. But by feeling push from their parents’ side, they may pick a fight.
Betsy Brown Braun, founder of parenting Pathways (parenting conferences), encourage parents to start mornings with a little cozy time with their kid (s). This way, kid (s) will feel less stress before being involved with serious task of schooling.

Second advice I like to share is about parents attitude toward kid’(s) responsibilities. Some parents like to do every single task for their kid(s) to only be kind for them. It is enjoyable
for children that someone will take charge of all of their personal tasks. But consequently, it will make kids become lazy. Most of the tasks which kid(s) need to perform to get ready to school could be done by themselves. Parents should give the chance to their kid(s) to perform their personal tasks. This way, parents will be more relaxed and in return support their kid(s) to get ready to school in a shorter time.

There is another strategy which could be applied by parents which is called ‘THE STEP-BACK’ strategy. The clinical psychologist Thomas Phelan, Ph.D., creator of the 1-2-3 Magic
parenting program advises that parents put responsibility of being on time to their kid (s). He explains that some parents do things for their children not to be mean but just to be a good mom/dad. But it really is backfiring. Parents by their tasks make their children to become more dependent and oppositional. Dr.Phelan suggests parents to put responsibilities to their kid(s). At first, kids may be late for their school but shortly they will become punctuated students. Because they will face with consequences of being late in the reality and also, they assume themselves responsible for being tarded.

Hope that we as parents apply these methods in order to support our kids be more successful in their schooling. I like to hear about yours thoughts now…
